This is a short video where I describe the awesome method I use to solve problems, find inspiration & literally get work done while I sleep. It is based on the principles of psycho cybernetics and if you dig this video I highly suggest you either read or listen to the audiobook version of New Psycho Cybernetics.

    Hey Maren,

This is the exact method I use to come up with blog post ideas. But I'm glad you posted this as a reminder because there are a few issues I've been trying to solve and I hadn't really thought to use this method for my personal problems, so thanks for the reminder.

The REAL psycho-cybernetics is better than the “new” psycho-cybernetics, as an FYI, though I never finished the original :( Recommend picking it back up?

Think and Grow Rich is an awesome book, and was what first got me into the whole personal development (and, by extension, entrepreneurship) game. I recommended that to everyone for at least a month after I read it, though my zealotry and evangelism died down after a while.

I will definitely try this, and your post has revived my interest in those two books!

P.S. I found it very, very interesting that Maltz says that the brain finds success through repeated failings, just like how entrepreneurs are told to 'fail often'. It must strengthen their brain's success mechanism, no? Strange how succeeding in every area – business, sports, any skill – comes down to the same things: failing, then getting back up, dusting yourself back off, and continue to practice.

    Excellent (video) post, Maren!

I totally forgot about that subconscious thing. I remember before, I made this scrapbook full of pictures of goals that I have (which I called “dream book”), and a lot of times I look at it before going to bed so my subconscious mind will figure out a way on how to get these goals. The same thing is being said in the book “The Secret” which talked about the law of attraction. I haven't done it in a while so I guess I have to get that habit going again.

Oh, I just noticed the new hair. Nice :)

    Hi Maren,

I can attest that the idea incubator works. I have been doing this naturally for a while now but I never realized the actual effect it had. I recently wrote a blog post that contained fairly similar content as this video. It was about what conditions invigorate my most creative thoughts. Ironically, mine come from laying in bed at night before I go to bed. I'm glad you posted this video; it identified that there actually is a method to my “madness.” I also use this technique in studying for course exams, works fairly well.

P.S. I'm not sure how long ago you did it, but before I even clicked to start the video I noticed the change in your hair color. Looks great! I've been reading around your blog for a while but never left a comment. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is something I know about, but sometimes forget about the concept. Thanks for the reminder.

This is a clever idea. I've not tried it before but will for sure within the next half hour as I'll be going to bed then. I'll keep up with it for at least a week and then report how it's helped me in a blog post in the near future and will be glad to link back to your article here.

Thanks for the tip Maren! :)

Yep, the power of the subconscious is amazingly powerful.

Thanks so much Chad, for the hair comment & the comment comment :) Glad you chimed in – it really does work well and the longer you practice it the better the effects. Just did it last night & woke up with a marketing plan that I'd been trying for weeks to come up with in the waking hours.

Yeah, the dream scrap book is a great thing to have – lots of people who study the mind can attest to it's power on you subconscious & thanks!

You couldn't be more right on that true success is paved with constant failure, the only difference is that successful people have the guts to fail & the determination to keep on going afterwards.

It is awesome for blog post ideas – even if you just take a quick cat nap – i do that often when i am trying to brainstorm a blog idea & can't get excited about it. I'll drift into sleep & when I wake up have a great post & tons of leads on how to flesh it out. I'm so glad this is a technique people are using and having success at!

    Hey, Maren –

I've been reading your blog for a while but this is my first comment. :)

I'm *so* glad you shared this technique and I'm excited to try it out. Like Eric, I'll put it to use and report back to you. I do find that I'm bombarded with intensely creative ideas once I hop into bed at night and turn out the lights and I save them as text messages on my BlackBerry {which I keep on the nightstand next to me} but now I'm going to *tell* my subconscious to give me a specific solution and see what it comes up with.

Also going to Tweet this post right now! Thanks!
