If you don’t have your own blog you need to get one a.s.a.p. This is no longer a suggestion but a demand for any person who wants to be successful in the realm of entrepreneurship. I don’t care if you have a brick and mortar Pawnshop or are a Realtor, getting your own blog is essential when it comes to escaping the 9 to 5 and branding yourself as an expert.
1. Give your company a face. If you run a small or big business often a lot can get lost in translation. Customer service usually happens only on the ground floor (i.e. restaurant’s eating area, cosmetic counter at department stores). But after the initial interaction the idea of your business is usually lost on the consumer. This is because most companies are not transparent. So give your business a face, tweet about what happens at the office, blog about new changes coming down the line in customer service policy, facebook a funny quip the office manager said. All of these things help people see your company as more than a company but instead like another person who they feel free to communicate with and be communicated to.
2. Stake your claim on your e-property. If you have a business or brand that has anything to do with your name you may want to stake a claim to that name now. I learned this the hard way thinking “They’re can’t be more than 1 Maren Kate in the world” so I put off getting all the social media accounts I could with my name in it and buying the URL until much later. This makes it hard once you are starting to do a lot online and it confuses people. So even if you only write about how much your fern has grown in two weeks write something and start linking your offline persona with online property.
3. Becoming a Superstar. Almost all of us at some point wanted to be “famous” and probably still some of you do. Human beings are very driven by a feeling of importance and nothing gives you that like knowing others are reading what you write & gobbling up the content you put out there. Even if your niche is nematology you can rise to a ‘Superstar’ level within your given genre by consistently putting out good content and informing/entertaining your audience. Blogging can lead to opportunities, fame & even fortune if done for the right reasons and done with some heart.
4. Because its fun. No really it is, having an avenue to get steam of your chest is great… even if its unprofessional. My only advice is to have various blogs address various ‘parts’ of your personality. This blog is dedicated to helping others escape the 9 to 5 and find financial freedom through entrepreneurship. I am creating two new sites right now one based around ‘cewebrity’ interviews and the other is going under my personal name Maren Kate & will just be my chance to rant, rave & help out others.
5. Because imagine how rich you’d be if you had bought a house in San Fran in the 70s. Even though online ‘property’ is intangible it doesn’t mean it isn’t real. If I had gotten started blogging (not working online full time but only started a blog) when I found out about the internet I’d be an incredibly, incredibly successful 24 year old right now. At the present I don’t think I’m doing poorly, I have a few of my own businesses and I completely support myself via entrepreneurship but just imagine if I had a blog with a age rank of 5 or 7 years? This reason alone is a great one to get you going… so go over to Wordpress.org or Wordpress.com and put up a blog. You can do this for free or nearly free if you spend a few hours learning Wordpress. A great resource for all sorts of blogging and Wordpress help is Pat Flynn’s blog Smart Passive Income. Check it out I love it and it gives a lot of valuable content for free!
