For this I am going to direct you to a video I did on Kevin Kelly’s idea of 1000 True Fans & why its so vital for your brand and business. (sorry about the poor visual quality.. so just close your eyes & listen)

To sum up you need to start your business, whether online or off with the thoughts:
who can become my 1000 true fans? why would they chose to be my fan? and how can I offer them enough value to become my fan.

What are you offering? (service, product, entertainment)
Who is your demographic? (age, location, income level, profession, religious/political views)
What would entice them to become my fan? (I offer them: pleasure, entertainment, happiness, ways to make more money, ways to save time, ways to save money, a certain skill set, etc.)

Once you have these figured out write a paragraph on your true fan, the individual. Then write a paragraph from the true fans point of view, what they want and what they are looking for in you. If you really pay attention and focus on the ideas in this post alone you will be head and shoulders above your competition in understanding and connecting with your market. Also you’ll be that much closer to getting 1000 true fans.

Next step in start up school is going over to course 7 which is all about Outsourcing, something I call my ‘secret sauce’ for business success.
