Now, don’t let me lose you because you read the words prosperity plan and think “hippy b.s.” – it’s not, I promise, I’m the least hippy person you’ll ever meet! Instead PLEASE read this post, honest to goodness this is probably one of the most important pieces of information I’ve ever shared on Escaping the 9 to 5. If you write out your prosperity plan, follow these guidelines and act on this plan you WILL succeed in your business and in your life (I guarantee it!).

What is a Prosperity Plan

Firstly, I got the name from reading a book called the Toilet Paper Entrepreneur (a kind of crass read but informative none the less). A prosperity plan is something you write out, on paper, that acts as the road map for your business and life.

These aren’t wishy washy “goals” or things you’d like to do “someday” this is a “COME HELL OR HIGH WATER THIS IS HAPPENING” plan. If that scares you (because you’re a pansy who doesn’t want to take risks) then you can say farewell now and go fly a kite, you just saved your self a little bit of work but lost the opportunity to change your life.

A prosperity plan consists of:

  • Your life’s mission
  • Your destiny
  • Your businesses destiny
  • Your businesses area of rocking it
  • Your businesses immutable laws (think of the ten commandments for your business)
  • Your community blueprint
  • A hand drawn (or digitally created if you are spiffier than I) map of your business

My Prosperity Plan

Since it always seems to be easier to do something after you have an example I am putting out here in the open my ENTIRE prosperity plan for my life and my business – yep this may be TMI but if it encourages just one person to do the same and changes their life it’s worth it. (Certain aspects of business models are vague to keep from intellectual property breaches).

Maren Kate’s Life’s Mission:

  • Total freedom, financial, emotional, locational & physical.
  • Enough wealth to REALLY make a difference – change my life, my family tree, others lives
  • Always be an agent of change, never settle for the status quo, always take the road less traveled that leads to the greatest rewards

Maren Kate’s Destiny (where I will be):

  • Write a bestselling book
  • Millionaire by 30
  • Start and Fund “Anoption” (a program that enables single moms and unplanned pregnancies to give their babies for adoption while putting them through school or helping them start a business of their own) by 30

Oracle Launch’s Destiny (where we will be):

  • All 7 projects taking off, growing in popularity and the businesses becoming extremely profitable enough to the point where I hire staff for each
    • Get Oracle Launch New Media Firm to $40k a month in profit by end of the year
      • Sell later for over $1 million
    • Sell out ALL spots on the Radillac, make national news
    • Ihearthappyhour.com to be the #1 search result for the term “happy hour”
    • Escapingthe9to5.com will be the premier online resource for extraordinary entrepreneurs those who want to escape the 9 to 5 (100k a month readership)
    • Outsourcinglifestyle.com will become the number one job board for hiring Filipino virtual assistants in the world.
    • Woovue.com will be sold for over $1 million within a year of it’s inception
    • ESE Social Club will take off in Reno and will spread to Las Vegas with 500 members within the NV area, it will funnel business and leads into Oracle Launch and I will set a team up that will take it to other large cities making it a national brand.

Oracle Launch’s Area of Innovation

  • Quality & Personality

Oracle Launch’s Immutable Laws

  • Make it good for everyone: When the business succeeds the employees benefit through either bonuses, raises or profit sharing
  • Always, always be a believer: Everyone that works for and in Oracle Launch must believe in what we do, if you have valid objections bring your thoughts or ideas to me directly. If you are just a doubter and think our goals are too big or we are shooting too high then this isn’t the right company for you. We want nothing but day dream believers, optimists and those who have amazing amounts of faith.
  • Beat it, jerk: We refuse to deal with, work for or cater to rude, abusive or jerky people. Whether in our own business (heaven forbid) or when dealing with clients, vendors or partners if someone is fits the mold of a jerk we’ll tell them “beat it” in no vague terms.
  • Karma police: If you have the opportunity to help someone out, to go out on a limb or to give without the faintest possibility of recompense do it, every time. There are no karma police and no one is taking tally – but generosity, compassion and love is what separates us from the animals, spreading it around makes you better, our company better and the world a better place.
  • Let it shine: At Oracle Launch we pride ourselves in building an empire on quality & personality. In everything you do at Oracle Launch be 100% sure it is of the highest quality and be encouraged to let your personality shine through always.
  • The status quo is the enemy: If ever we are caught in a slump or having trouble gaining traction in a certain market just take a look around at what everyone else is doing – then run the other way. The status quo is our enemy, always er on the side of being too different than too similar.
  • 80/20 principle: In all you do ALWAYS think of 80/20 Principle, a book that is required reading for any Oracle Launch employee. Focus on the 20% that matters, forget the 80% that don’t. This will be counter-intuitive to all you have learned and been taught but you must embrace that the world isn’t a balanced place, that 20% of the effort makes for 80% of the results. Focus on that 20% and try to grow it into all that you do.
  • No finger pointing, just learn. If something goes wrong NEVER blamestorm, instead find the problem and focus only on the solution. I don’t care whose fault it is, only that is it fixed and we learn from it.

Oracle Launch’s Community

We want those who want us. Those who align with our goals & belief systems, the companies and clients who are unconventional, who think outside the box, who embrace change. These individuals will be our driving force, the community that we serve & love. These individuals are not penny pinchers when it comes to what matters, they realize value and are wiling to pay for it and they appreciate the quality & personality behind our brand. Our community is who we work for and with, always keep a keen ear to the ground and listen to their needs, keep a finger on their pulse and make changes to the way we operate accordingly.

Create your own Prosperity Plan

Now it’s time for you do the same, this isn’t EASY folks. It may take a few days (I got so pumped it to me only an hour – but I’ve also been in business for a year so I’m a late bloomer) or only one sit down at your desk. But please for your life, for your business do this! After you have this road map all it takes is navigating ever month or quarter to check and see if you are still on target. If not, change course, adjust your actions, make sure you are focused on  your Prosperity Plan and you’ll get there no matter what.

Also it doesn’t matter if others think your goals are crazy, actually you WANT them to call you unreasonable! That means you are shooting high enough!

Simply a phenomenal post! That wasn't TMI at all…it was fantastic. Thanks for sharing! I'm HUGE on written goals/plans, and this is an interesting approach — particularly the immutable laws and community blueprint. Wish you the best as you work to crush all of those goals, both personal and professional.

  • drivenmg

wow. I don't know if I'd be that forthcoming on a lot of my projects but maybe that is the trick. This gives me something to think about and it really looks like you're on your way to reaching your goals. I would def like working with you on a few side projects.

    Frickin' awesome Maren,
And quite courageous as well – I would never open my personal plans for domination, it just takes away the mystery of it ;)

Excellent prosperity plan! Very detailed and informative. I love the fact that you included a map to show others the alternative routes. Entrepreneurs have to remember that everything may not go as planned, so you need to have alternate routes to get to your goals.

Great stuffs Maren! Very important to have a plan for your biz. One caveat is not to overplan and spend too much time on planning instead of doing. Planning is only as important as it will get you started. It might change as time goes by (naturally). Life's missions for me are tough to decide on, gotta think about that more!

“Your businesses immutable laws (think of the ten commandments for your business)”

This reminds me of the 10 Core Values adopted by Zappos. About to finish reading “Delivering Happiness” by Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, and those 10 Core Values are crucial in building and maintaining the right culture for the business, which in turns determine the right customer service level for the company. So far it seems that it's working!

Take care and have a good weekend!

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Wow that sounds awesome now i'll have to go check out that core values :)

    Maren,
I enjoyed the post. 1 question though.

    What do you mean by:

“Enough wealth to REALLY make a difference – change my life, my family tree, others lives”

Is there a certain number you have in mind? A certain definable goal? It seems there's a lot that you can do to “change my life, my family tree, others lives” without money, isn't there? I'm not hating on money, I'm just not sure it's as necessary as we always think it is. As an “agent of change” I would hate to see you putting off changing lives around you now and waiting until you had a certain dollar figure in the bank account

Mind clarifying? [p.s. I think your anoption program idea is sweet =)]

  • dougshaw

Hi Maren – the newspaper is online here http://bit.ly/c0KSZl see P10 for a writer you might be familiar with…

  • http://runt.ly/ Muhammadatt

I also read TPE, and this was by far my favorite part of the book. You have articulated your goals well and the Immutable Laws you wrote are spot on. However, in my experience I have found that highly specific goals like “sell X for $X in X months” to be almost meaningless within the context of a startup. You should remain flexible enough that your initial business plan is be considered nothing more than an starting set of assumptions that are open to further exploration and refinement. Staying flexible like this has allowed me quickly pivot to new opportunities when it turn out that the market, timing, feature set, etc. of my most recent plan for world domination turns out to be not quite as rosy as initially assumed.

I have found myself to be most effective when I am focusing on process rather than narrowly defined goals. If you are as type-A as I am (and it certainly sounds like you are!) then lack of goals is rarely the problem. Consider making a list of core processes you want to integrate into your life and your business. These can be personal (e.g. schedule 5 meetings a week with people who can benefit my career) or tied to a specific business. You could argue that these are just goals of a different sort, but the point is to get you to focus on the “how” not just a vague “what.” For example rather simply stating a goal like “be #1 is customer satisfaction” your “Process Plan” articulate how you plan to achieve it: e.g. “establish a system for responding to user complaints within one hour”, “create a program to survey customer satisfaction on a quarterly basis”. What are the core processes that are most critical for your career and your business?

  • Maren Kate

Thanks so much :) yep that kind of stuff is soo important in business it seems

  • http://the-dame.com The Dame

Anoption sounds like a fantastic idea!

  • http://seanandlauren.com Lauren

Thanks for sharing all your specific goals, Maren. It's insightful & inspiring to hear what others are focused on achieving!

Defining (and redefining) goals is so crucial to actually achieving them. The TPE Prosperity Plan looks like an awesome way to get clarity and then take some flippin action. Good find, Maren!
