Maren, congratulations on getting you're check. You're spot on. Working for yourself certainly beats working for anyone else and you're right. It's scary starting out, but once you have it feels like nothing else!

Mostly through website design & building, but also through consulting a few small businesses on how to launch their own social media campaigns to build their brand online! Sorry :) I forgot to add that!

Hi Maren,

Congratulations!! Beautiful AND successful -- WOW! ;-)

One tiny detail, however -- Your post does not fulfill its title! Exactly HOW did you make that $4444 in 7 days?

Please be specific--Simply claiming to have made $X is not very useful except for ego gratification perhaps ;-)

Looking forward to hearing the nitty-gritty details!

Regards,
Burt

Well you are young! THat is the PERFECT time to start something crazy, take a big dive off the deep end and go head first into your passions! With that too you need to never let anyone else 'steer' your future, even if they are your folks. Parents can be too cautious at times, but its your decision in the end. I say go for both opportunities with everything you've got. Stock pile cash and then in a few months use some of that capital to launch your own business or pursue whatever your passions may be. Remember, you've got ONE life, don't waste it trying to make someone else happy or trying to live up to expectations. Think how un-happy Bill Gates folks were when he dropped out? Bet they are proud now. Do something remarkable and even the nay sayers will be impressed in the end.

Try getting the book 'The E Myth' or 'Getting Things Done' by David Allen, both are great resources to help narrow down your mental to-do lists & instead clear the way for some progress. What I do is only allow myself to take on 3 projects at a time, once one is up and running on its own I can move on.

Thanks for a post. I'm thinking about what I can do to make my freelance writing work more for me...whether it is through the blog or other aspects. The main thing for me is to keep focused; I have a tendency to let too many ideas swamp me. Then not much gets done.

Wow! first off, CONGRATZ!!! what a milestone...

I'd say one of my fears is making the jump from doing blue-collar work to actually flooring the pedal on my entrepreneurial endeavors.
I'm 20, still live at home with my dad, and i'm dying to leave the nest. but being stuck at what seems to be a dead-end job doesn't shed much light on what i'm hoping to be a bright year and future.
I got an offer to join a design team that would allow me to average at least $500+ a week if i really work at it. but the thing is, my dad's a little old fashioned and sees no point in designing anything that involves art for a living. he thinks it won't pay the bills.
I've also got 1 or 2 other outlets that will allow me to average $1,000 a month if i hit it hard, but again, my dad has no faith in those possibilities as well.
With my dad, basically, trying to steer my career, i don't know what my next step should be. i guess i'm a little worried that he'd give me the boot and i've dreaded that situation because i'd be leaving home on what i think would be bad terms.
What should i do?
