One of the best articles I've ever read. I am delivering a service to a couple of my customers and I was down with fever. One of the customers was quite angry at me for not delivering stuff on time (for which rationally - there's no reason to explain) because I tried to be my best.

So I took this lesson to heart and kept on. I may be sick... But screw me. "Work when you live and rest when you're dead".

I'm just like you. I didn't go to college. I'm 18 with a full-time business that isn't established. And all of this 2012 - the quote "Life isn't fair" has been echoing in my head.

I just made a search during my break time and found your blog. Nice stuff in here dude.

The key is to hang out with a group that understands that life isn't a fair game. You never get to that stage if you hang out with people who are sentimental, whiny bitches.

All we can do is to face the unfair life, get on top of it and try make the world fair for the generations to come. In my opinion, it'd be a failed cause.

Why?

Humans are wired to overreach. They are competitive and so life will always be unfair to people.

Everybody who grows up in poverty or in an impoverished condition with awareness of the world out there aims to climb out of their poverty and become a successs in life (Millionaire, Billionaire or whatever name yu want to call it).

They realize that in order to rise they always have to go the extra mile in everything. Doesn't that make your normal definition of life unfair...

The typical rule of successful businessmen is to deliver ten times more value than what you're taking from your customer.

But you'll find a lot of people walking around with the idea - Equal pay for equal work.

Another example:

If there were only 2 men and 2 women in the universe, both of them are the same age and their goal is to procreate and bring humanity forward, here's what would happen:

- The men would each plot the murder of the other and try to take both the women with him. The most competitive gene will eventually outsmart the other (physically, mentally or emotionally) and take both the women with him.

Logically, it'd be a stupid thing to do. But that's what we do.

I referred to men in the example above because men are typically perceived to be the most competitive. Nothing mean to women. Even if it was the other way around, the result would be the same but the methods would be intellectual and emotional.

With a man, it is likely to be physical and mental.

You're in the best place in the entire world to scale that mountain.

And you're quite right about the 'loin. Some of the best - and cheapest - food in the city lurks on those streets.

I had to come back and make another comment. What I really love about this post is that you really emphasize that when you start working on any valuable and meaningful goal, you don't know what's going to happen. You can't predict the future and everything is supremely fuzzy. The only thing you have to go on is your beliefs and desire to succeed.

And there will be people around you telling you why you can't do it and why the idea is silly. And it does get hard when the results are coming as fast as you'd expect them too. It's hard to keep having faith in yourself and your ideas when people tell you to quit and be realistic.

And it's hard as hell when you keep trying to move forward and you continuously fall back two steps. But if you pay attention to what's working and what doesn't, enroll the right help, and keeping working on what IS working, that breakthrough will come. Too many people give up too soon, only if they kept going once they got through what Seth Godin calls The Dip.

I love this post and it's something I know I'll read over and over again in 2012 to help me accomplish my goals...cause they ain't gonna be easy to accomplish. But that doesn't mean it's impossible for me to achieve them.

Thanks again for the wonderful update and dose of inspiration!

And there will be people around you telling you why you can’t do it and why the idea is silly. And it does get hard when the results are coming as fast as you’d expect them too. It’s hard to keep having faith in yourself and your ideas when people tell you to quit and be realistic.

And it’s hard as hell when you keep trying to move forward and you continuously fall back two steps. But if you pay attention to what’s working and what doesn’t, enroll the right help, and keeping working on what IS working, that breakthrough will come. Too many people give up too soon, only if they kept going once they got through what Seth Godin calls The Dip.

I love this post and it’s something I know I’ll read over and over again in 2012 to help me accomplish my goals…cause they ain’t gonna be easy to accomplish. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for me to achieve them.

Thanks again for the wonderful update and dose of inspiration!

Awesome 1 year mark.

I still remember ~6 months talking to you on the Zirtual site when you were running it, when I told you my blog is Milk the Pigeon and you told me "I love pigeons.." hahaha.

Crazy to think how quickly things snowball.

Best of luck! Happy 1 yr anniversary, and cheers to big things in the future

Another thing I realized on some posts and with my self, is that when you start disliking working for a corporate company, you start to question your self too much. Too many questions, and no answers. If this goes on, you start asking yourself what the hell is it that you want in life. And this is ok, I guess, or not. I don't know anymore.

I just went back into the industry, and after 3 days want out
I don't even know why. I was really excited about the job at first, and then nothing.

When cooking was a challenge, it was fun. Now it just became another boring job. I lost my passion for this profession and am considering doing something else.
Another thing is when you leave the industry. You get spoiled by having weekends, seeing your friends and family, holidays, etc.

There is also the factor of, on my break from the industry, I worked for my self on my time off, and had no one over my head. That was something I enjoyed. Being a personal chef is what I did. My menu, my time, my schedule, etc.
The whole irony comes when this lady, whom I told that I want to do something else, told me that if I do anything else, it would be a waste of talent.

I am now considering going into some sort of farming, picking wild herbs, herbal tea, and edible plants. Don't ask, I still have no clue, but the idea kind of grew on me a bit.
Or just another career. Something, new and unexplored. Like, uhhhhhhhhhh, how about opening up a farmers market, selling organic and local. I know a bit about farming, every single fruit and vegetable, and could tell people how to cook it in the best way. Give them my phone number if they need advice....you know?

I know for a fact, that every chef that has left the industry, from time to time considers going back, as the great Marco Pierre White put it, "like a boxer that has put his gloves away, still dreams of entering the ring one more time" . Life will unravel in its best way, I hope, for everybody and my self. And if I leave this industry, I will miss it, but not because of the industry, cooking, food, adrenalin blah blah.

But for I will miss the people, that I have met along the way.

Cool post. Glad to hear things are picking up. Experiencing the lows is important as it gives you something to reflect on and makes the highs feel so much better.
