Creating a Community via Comments | Blogging Tips

Written by: Maren Kate // Comments

Recently I’ve noticed an amazing and exciting trend within my own blog and others who I read avidly, its a practice I call building a comment community. Let me explain this blogging tip that I think is a good ear mark of a healthy blog. Some bloggers respond to the comments they receive after a post, others don’t do this so much. I learned from Pat Flynn in one of his stellar posts that responding to comments is essential to building a community around your blog… but even more interesting is when you notice the commentators responding to each other. This is truly a community being formed around whatever you blog’s niche is based on. So if you have a food blog where those who comment ask about recipes and then there are some “leaders” within  your food blog who will routinely respond to others comments, even often before you do, this is a GREAT sign of a healthy and interactive blog.

How to Write for the Blog You Want, Not the Blog You Have

Written by: Maren Kate // Comments

I have found myself lately in a internet business/blog funk, not that I don’t love my blog (**self hug**) but because it is easy for me to get maniacal about the number of comments, page views etc Escaping the 9 to 5 gets. The number of page views has only been growing, but I want reader interaction to grow as well and since with all things in life it takes a lot of hard work… I get frustrated. Today I heard someone say an old colloquialism “don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want” and I thought… presto, that’s it, that is how to excel at writing a blog… you write for the blog you want, not the one you have.

How to Jump 90,521 Places in Alexa in 10 Days

Written by: Maren Kate // Comments

Wow, so I just noticed something radical while I was contemplating my naval messing around on Alexa.com instead of getting work done. My site www.Escapingthe9to5.com (you know, the thing you are reading) has jumped 90,521 places in Alexa in 10 days AND I went from having 8 other sites linking in to having 78!!

This is a major accomplishment for me! Less than ten days ago I wrote this post tracking your blog’s success on Alexa where I bemoaned my paltry Alexa rating and swore to you all come hell or high water I would increase my traffic to this site in the next year by lots. Well, heck, I guess it’s working! Now you may be thinking Maren, I don’t care about your stupid site’s ranking, all I care about is MY stupid site’s ranking - understandable. So let me keep your interest a few moments longer, in this post I am going to tell YOU how YOU can attract LOTS of sites to link in to your site in no time fast!

Tracking Your Blog’s Success through Alexa

Written by: Maren Kate // Comments

The Breakdown

Alrighty… so here is the breakdown. Today I checked my Alexa rating, which was actually better than I thought it would be. But still, not great. No worries though, I’ve only been blogging on Escaping the 9 to 5 for 6 months now. Still… it is very important that each and everyone of you who blogs go check your Alexa rating now, this will help you see where you are and then compare and contrast to see where you WILL be in the future.
