Reading your blog posts is giving me the same exact feeling I was getting reading a pdf copy of a bootlegged e-book I thought was going to be just another 'how to make millions of dollars using twitter' book by the name of 'Crush IT'. Since reading that pdf about 2 months ago I no longer feel alone in this cyber world knowing that a guy named Gary is out preaching the same thing I've been babbling about, and now I found you!

Ahh, such great things to do. Is it OK if I work 8 more years at my full-time job, while trying to do a side job, so I can save enough money so that the interest income from my savings can replicate my current full-time job salary?

I'm taking the more conservative path, I know… but I find it to be a decent balance and a frolicking good time too.

This reminds me a lot of the “whats in it for you” concept. Great summary of the book as it sounds really interesting. This is something I need to pick up because when I am asked that question, I often respond with a short ineffective answer so I know this is something I need to work on. Thanks for sharing!

It looks like an interesting book. I added it to my To Read list.

Many people don't really know the 'why' part of their business, and it's critical they know it. There are many aspects in business where the 'why' is important. I have always believed businesses that ask 'why' can typically be more successful than those only asking what. “Why is our competition beating us?” “Why do we do _______ this way?” It's too easy to become complacent if 'why' isn't used enough?

This makes perfect sense. I haven't read this book but understand the question of asking “why.” Years ago I had stopped asking people what they do at events as part of a challenge I had read about. I had read that people in the U.S. put an unbalanced emphasis on what people do rather than who they are – and the author had challenged readers to quit asking people what they do but rather questions with more depth – I believe your article fits into this theme as well.

Trust me – it sounds simple but it's pretty tough to execute – at least at first. I agree with your rationale of letting the 80% slip by and focusing on the 20% who are a fit. I strongly believe in the philosophy that I am my client. Sure I can execute on a wide variety of tasks and industries, however the most enjoyable are the progressive, forwarding thinking entrepreneurs.

Besides, as the recession continues the question of “What do you do?” is becoming increasingly awkward. Now is probably a good time to ditch it for more depth
