The saying goes that 5% of the population controls 95% of the wealth and that rings pretty true. It also works online, 5% of the people actively engaged online get a majority (maybe even 95%) of the attention. Why is this? Well they definitely don’t do it by being plane Jane’s. People like Erica of Erica.biz sold her company at the tender age of 26 for over $1,000,000 and now blogs to help others do the same, Naomi of IttyBiz has a cult following who hang on her every, usually potty mouthed, word. Others like Jason Falls talk about social media and have become an expert in the eyes of many because of his cutting edge views and profitable uses for new media. All of these popular bloggers and profitable entrepreneurs have gotten that way through being market leaders instead of contributing to the dull, spammy, dribble that constitutes so much of the internet today.
So what does this mean amigo? My soon to be “crushing it” entrepreneurial friend? It means you need to get off the mediocre wagon and follow your passion, it means you have to become a market leader too… no matter how weird or off beat your market may be.
So if your true blue passion is painting its time to become an online market leader in the painting world. You should be making videos, blogs, maybe even a podcast and filling your arena with cutting edge, controversial and market leading ideas. Maybe you can create a painting by numbers widget if you have some programming savvy, or perhaps you have discovered how making your own paint from crushed blueberries is 100x more cost effective than buying art supplies. Whatever it is, kooky or not, as long as you are different and truly stand by your ideas and opinions you’ll eventually become a leader in your niche.
Its better to go down in flames than drift into oblivion of anonymity. Because at least people from the shores can see the flames mass hit the water, if you just sink without anyone knowing you’ll never get anywhere. So try, try and try again. Go to bat a thousand times if needed before you hit it out of the park but don’t stop trying EVER! Go down in flames a few times or maybe you’ll make a success on your first try but either way be brash, beautiful & bold about whatever your passion is.
It works for the big boys like Gary Vaynerchuk so why can’t it work for you? It is probably one of the top characteristics of entrepreneurs! Let me know how you have been becoming a market leader too in the comment section below & I’ll love you long time!
