So you are reading this… that means you’ve put off death, momentarily, but really it just means you decided to click on my cheesy headline. It’s not a lie either, whether you read this or don’t you’ll die eventually… sorry folks, but death isn’t something we should be so afraid to talk about and only take your own mortality so seriously it helps lead a happy, healthy life.
So what is this post about? Well its about bringing eyeballs to your blog posts… which is a BIG positive whether you are an entrepreneur, enthusiast, business or even a professional blogger. Here are the key things I’ve noticed that increase traffic, increase blog posts getting read and increase comments/interaction on your site:
- Read other people’s stuff. Nothing gets my creative juices going like reading a book from someone like Seth Godin or reading one of my favorite new blogs like White Hot Truth. Also by reading other’s blogs and books you learn how to write well yourself, without having to spend 5 years in college like I did
- Comment on other people’s stuff. Whether this is via retweeting a blog post, commenting on an interesting article online or just emailing someone and saying ‘wow your book changed my life’ this is a great way to get your face out there and get viral. When you comment a lot people who also read the blog will start wondering what your deal is and click through to your own site and the blog’s creator will take interest. It is a great way of networking, finding mentors and getting eyes to your site without spending any $dough$
- Match your title and text keywords. This may seem like boring SEO stuff but its easy & important, chose a few keywords that are relevant to your blog & niche (i.e. horse breeding, thoroughbred breeders & horse breeders in Omaha) and try to create a few blog posts with matching titles and mentions of the keyword within the text. Sound confusing? Ask me more questions about it in the comments or go over to www.IttyBiz.com and search for their SEO school ebook, best money ever for SEO training and super funny!
- Write like a 1930′s newspaperman (or woman). That mean catch the reader’s eye with the topic you chose to write a post on.. don’t make it too long and don’t worry about perfect sentence structure. Its called a grabber for a reason, right as many ‘grabbers’ as you can and you’ll see people staying on your site longer and coming back more often.
- Be active in the social web. This means don’t JUST try to collect twitter followers, instead focus on INTERACTING with people on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Youtube, wherever has the most to do with your niche. If you are in Brazil find people to network with on Orkut (the countries’ largest social media platform) if you are a video freak find people to interact with on Viddler, Vimeo or TubeMogul.
- Ask for interviews/to guest post. Both have gone over well for me, I’ve asked people way to big for me to do interviews & they have said yes… most notably Craig of Craigslist and I have asked people with blogs much bigger than mine to do a guest post & they have said yes… most recently here on subject2.com
Anything I missed? Mad at me because I threatened you with death to get you to read this post… well if so COMMENT BELOW and let me know you’re out there… it gets lonely in the blogosphere :’(
