I’ve been working on the new and improved Escaping the 9 to 5 site & design for the last month now. I’m in the last throws of the process but I cannot for the life of me decide on a color scheme! So I’m coming to you – my lovely escapees – to ask for your help & which color scheme you think is best. The comments on Facebook where completely split down the middle so hopefully this will help!

Number 1.

Number 2.

Number 3.

I truly appreciate your input and as a thank you I will be choosing one of you who leave a comment and linking back to you with the anchor text or your choice! Thanks again! Winner: small business marketing

My vote is for #1 – it immediately grabbed me!

I'm going with #3 looking at all 3 quickly while scrolling up and down I think the colors work the best. I am a big fan of blue but the green adds good color to page and accents well. IMO the orange does not have good flow.

My vote is number one I shows you smiling and that is good VIC D

I vote #1, but whichever you choose I think you should do something about the top navbar, it doesn't stand out enough for you to notice, if you ask me. I think it might be because the “Escaping the 9to5 box and the yellow “radical resources…” box below it is so much brighter than the navbar. Perhaps an icon on the left end of the navbar to cue your eye in to it, since you've used icons a lot elsewhere. Or a yellow tab highlighting the current page?

Oh I see what you are saying :) thanks! Will do :)

which number? I think you mean 1 – but you may mean 3 which is like lime color :)

Thank you so much for your great input :) I am forwarding this whole comment to my designer! I totally agree!

Thanks so much :) i liked that part of the design too.

I have a full time designer on staff for my company http://www.oraclelaunch.com soon to be changed to http://www.zetainternational.com we are taking a new approach, branding ourselves and really putting all our focus into one EPIC start up (more to be released on that soon!)

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

That is an interesting point :) i will look into white vs. black backgrounds and focusing – since that is important!

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Whoa! #1 & #3 are neck and neck – literally one vote difference between them – but 2 is closing in… Aaah! It's such a close race :)

I'd stick with 2 if you want to keep that recognizability. You've created brand recognition with your color scheme and you're losing it with 1 and 3. Excited to see the new layout.

Nice site you have. I would the prefer the number 2 design. The black and white effect is contrasting, which makes reader focus on the content itself.

At first look impression at the design 2, my eye focus on the title of the site, then I looked at the content. After looking at the content, I looked at is there any other pages or menu, the social media icon on the top right corner caught my eye first before I saw the menu on the left side. I thought the menu should make my eye focus there first instead of the social media icons. Probably the menu design should stand out more then the social media icons.

The 3 links menu (radical resource, esacpe…etc) below the title name has about the same colour tone as the title background colour, which makes it stick together and does not stand out. Maybe the 3 links menu could have a stronger contrast of shade of blue to make it stand out from the title colour tone. After all, its a menu, its suppose to make people pay attention and click. Just my thoughts and opinion… Cheers!

I have to go with #2, it builds upon your current theme and keeps your brand the same. I actually like the design of #1 the best, but I think design #2 will build upon the recognition and good will you have worked so hard to build.

  • StuartMcMinigal

Number 2 I'd say… Its clean and is bordering on what I see when I check out the website now…

Something about number 2 and the color blue…there must be some psychology behind that.

  • arsonizta

I am actually a designer, entrepreneur :) this is a nice website. I just came across searching about branding..

  • Deepam Sharma

I would go for #3 (#1 coming close second). To me, #3 feels more down-to-earth.

  • missy

    i like that maren.

  • http://comoperformancelab.com Kirsten

    # 2 is the edgiest. I like that one the best. # 3 is my second choice. I think #1 is kind of dull.

Just found your site! Congrats, rebranding is so exciting hey, I'm smack in the middle of mine too! I'm loving # 3 cos it's fresh, fun and sexy. Think margaritas at the beach, water sports, freedom, good times! Most importantly, it screams PERSONALITY. The blue is pretty but a lil corporate boring and this blog is about escaping that ;) Cheers! @TiaSparkles

I mean the blue as in # 2

  • Ellen

    Number 1 (yellow)

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Thanks Tia :) I appreciate your insight! I do like the green – mmm margaritas on the beach sounds amazing right now!

  • Tozier

I'm feelin' #2. Soothing. Blue. Oceanic. Whatever your choice, though, I like the new, cleaner design.

Wait, wait, I've got it. How about a little blood pressure monitor that you strap on, plug into your USB, and the site changes color to match your mood?

  • ralphcarlson

I vote for number 1. Number 2 is too bland. I think that the warm color is more inviting than the cool on number 3.

This design looks great Maren. It's more professional that this one.

  • http://ct.energynewsboard.com/ Matt

    Hi Maren,

#1 looks great! Looks great against the blue skies and palms in your header logo. Feels cool/calm :-) Cheers!

New reader here, Blue resonates with what you say. Stick with it :P

  • Michael

    3. Of course ;D

  • Samronjude

Number 3 gives the positive vibe! Thats what I felt at first glimpse.

  • http://twitter.com/yarostarak Yaro Starak

Hmm, you know I like all three.

You should have your developer set it up so it will load each theme style on a 33% weighting and see which one results in the most opt-ins ;-)

  • unitednotions

the continuity of the blue in no.2 works for me ..
