In the massive sea of web 2.0 sites how can you get your business or your website seen? Its an age old question (well actually its just as old as the internet.. i digress) and one that many people disagree over. I, a simple person, like to boil it down to the simplest terms possible.
What does your website want? = traffic.
So where should you go when trying to get your website noticed? Go to where the traffic is, then draw them to you! So lets say you have a blog on cars (eck, no offense car bloggers) now you want traffic that is also interested in cars, so you won’t go looking for traffic on a beach volleyball website will you? No. A big fat no.
You’ll go to the 5 top blogs in your blogroll (just make a bookmark folder in your search engine called blogroll) and start commenting. Yep, its that simple… at first. Go comment, useful, intelligent or funny things on other people’s blogs who you look up to or have a lot to do with your website’s niche. When you fill out those little ‘leave a comment forms’ it asks for your name (real one), your site and usually they ask you if your human (i like to put no but then nobody posts my comments.. so sad). So be smart about this, comment wisely, comment often & comment quality. Then people will read your comment on a big website & think “they’re smart, i like them, i’m going to give them some of my blog reader love” and they’ll click on your link!
Yay for everyone! Okay so now what, how do you get MORE notice to your website? Boy aren’t you greedy! (Kidding loves) Anyhoo… more eyes, more clicks & more readers is ALWAYS a good thing. Slap anyone in the mouth who disagrees. My second top favorite for getting traffic to your site for FREE is social media marketing. A term that seems daunting but actual is as simple as joining Facebook, Twitter and browsing through social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon or Digg.
If you want to get REALLY motivated you can actually link some of your articles through joining Digg & StumbleUpon so that others can find them, then find you. Vola!
Best way though, atleast I think so, is to grow a strong Twitter presence, have lots of people who read your tweets and occasionally plug your sites via Twitter. Getting many Twit eyes on your site, commenting on your posts (I’ll smile if you comment on this one!) and generally loving your blog. I drive almost all of my traffic from social media marketing and actually have a whole business based around promoting businesses and brands on Twitter. Check it out if you want, in the next few months I’ll be launching a premium social media marketing firm that I am keeping hush hush right now…
Enough about me, the point being, social media is the new black. Get on it, use it, love it, get others on it to love you and you’ll drive traffic.
ACTION STEP (because you should always take action after learning some new entrepreneur advice):
1. Join Twitter
then
2. Start tweeting your blogs by adding the awesome wordpress plugin tweetmeme to each post like I have here (if you want to try it out and retweet this blog post I won’t mind!)
