So today I realized “oh my gosh!! I’m at my 100th blog post” needless to say I am psyched. So to pop the cork on the proverbial bottle of champagne I am going to release a free mini course within this post on four ways to monetize your blog. This is going to be short(ish), sweet and to the point, if you want FAR more instruction and hundreds of hours of tutoring on how to build an internet business empire check out the end of the post.

How to monetize your blog | 4 ultimate business in a box blueprints!

  • ebook business model
    • 7 easy steps
      • Choose a topic, preferably your passion
      • Create a table of contents this will act as your road map
      • If you can’t write, record & have it transcribe, if you don’t have enough to say its time to learn a little more before writing an ebook (duh!)
      • Use .PDF (save as .PDF) add pictures, graphs & graphics to look more pro.
      • write every day once a day for a set time, write as much or as little as you think covers your topic, then save as .PDF after proof read

    • designing a cover
      • Best to get it done professionally unless you have photoshop & are good at design. Options: 99designs, eLance, etc.
    • marketing it
      • Upload it to e-junkie to sell it (super simple to use and cheap)
      • Twitter (tweet it man!)
      • Facebook fan page (great place to get together with like minded peeps!)
      • Social bookmark the site it is selling on (delicious and such)
      • Do a video of what your eBook is about and why people should buy it (put it on Youtube with good keywords)
      • Affiliate market… try paydotcom.com and clickbank.com
    • to sell or to tempt opt ins with?
      • create an opt in package (like a give away or something) where someone gets incredible value for free. Then when you let out a product that person is already ‘primed’ with the sense that you let out great content so they are more likely to think “you gave X for free, what amazing info is contained in Z if i pay!’
      • build your list before you launch so you can do pre launch offers & develop affiliates that way
    • one day… using your ebook to springboard you into a real book? lulu.com
      • nothing says ‘credentials’ than when someone has written a book, even if they haven’t sold 20 copies. You could get speaking events etc, and use it to propel your personal brand. Plus it is just cool to call yourself an ‘author’
  • membership site model
    • community blueprint
      • the lifespan of a member and why the community is essential… it just is! Ha, but really it is a must to develop a community, either through your blog, your social networks or develop a paid membership course.
    • price point & what to offer (rule of 15)
      • anything under $15 people are usually more likely to keep on their cards for a longer time, because under $15 you can kind of forget about… but you’ll have to get a bigger crowd to make a profit, over $15 and you may as well price at a premium like $37-$57 or even $97 if your stuff is really, really good (IBMA).
    • wishlist member
      • quick overview of wishlist member and how simple it is
    • growing a free community into a paid community
      • blogging first, fan page, creating all sorts of places for people to connect with you and connect back… then launch a ‘premium’ paid membership
  • affiliate model
    • building an email list so you can offer affiliate things later
      • must make sure you chose your affiliates carefully or your carefully crafted trust could go south with a crap offering
    • offering affiliates on site
      • have ads? offer affiliates banner ads and others, or go through paydot.com, clickbank or entrecard
      • run through of e-junkie, clickbank & paydot.com & finding affiliates through relationships
  • consulting model (webinar/in person/phone)
    • webinar (gotowebinar.com) first free, then paid (list building)
      • great part is you are building your brand & collecting names for the lists
    • in person
      • have the ‘work with me’ offer where you will meet someone in person or over the phone to do one on one consulting for their business/brand/project look up consultant fees here.

Hope that at least got your creative juices flowing and if you are tickled pink to start an internet business today than I suggest you join Internet Business Mastery the very same course I took when I got my start online and the number 1 reason I attribute my business success too, both on and offline! The guys behind it are amazing and the knowledge you will receive in IBMA will change your life… promise! If you don’t believe me notice how often I offer affiliate products, it is like NEVER, I only ever promote Sterling & Jay’s internet business academy because I believe in it so much and have seen the wonders it has made in my life.

Congratulations! My blog is only about halfway there at the moment. I am currently working on 1 and 3, hopefully with 2 somewhere in the future :D

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Your blog is doing great Tom, I am super impressed by it and its growth :)

  • http://daringclarity.com/ Lana {Daring Clarity}

I started 1-1 coaching awhile back. In the propcess of writing an ebook and hopefully real book soon. You are right, so cool to be able to call yourself an author:) Awesome tips and resources!

  • http://www.buildthatlist.com/ Tom | Build That List

Thanks! I have been putting in a lot of effort so I am happy to start seeing some results :D

  • http://www.thinkbigthinkmoney.com/ Ken Siew

I'm also working on #1 and #3 Tom! And possibly #4 too. Main focus should be on affiliate marketing for now. But then again, I'd much prefer to build a strong community before monetizing because I know it will inevitably distract me from content and community. Lots to ponder…

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

I agree on the strong community thing Ken, seems like the most powerful blogs out there are the ones that focused on self less community building first… monetizing later. Also check out this amazing post: http://www.incomediary.com/how-i-monetize-my-bl…

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Thanks Lana :) Oh alas, to be an 'author' as soon as my business is sturdy enough I plan to go back to one of my passions… writing science fiction, I love that stuff!

    Online Education

Advanced topics in regular course program may promote a quality education and more prepared professionals. In this paper it is demonstrated how a requirements management framework focused on sustainability, proposed as a post-graduation thesis, was applied in product development projects of a regular graduation course………….

Damn it Maren you have given away my plan! lol

Great tips, I'm writing tutorials, a book, membership page and a consulting service lol!

Top work and congrats on the 100th post, now bang out the next 100

  • http://www.stevescottsite.com/ Steve Scott Site

Maren…Congrats on the 100th post. Halfway there myself.

Like the break-down of the different monetization models. This is a process that I'm starting within the next month… but might put off after my travels.

For anyone reading this, I would highly recommend putting your e-book on Clickbank. I did this for my one infoproduct. The benefit is if you build enough “gravity” people will find and promote your product without you doing any work. Each month, I have at least 10 or so affiliates I've never heard of make a sale for me. It's a pretty cool feeling when this happens.

  • http://www.diary4life.com Paul

    Maren,

Perfect timing, I'm just contemplating with the idea about producing a E-book. Then I go and read your post; thank you for such an insightful post.

    Regards

    Paul

  • http://experimentsinpassiveincome.com/ Moon Hussain

Congrats on that 100th! I'm thinking about an ebook and what topic I'd be great at. The other stuff will follow within the year ;)

  • Purplebutterfly

    Congratulation

  • http://ascenttofreedom.wordpress.com/ DJ Wetzel

Exciting stuff. I am currently working on the e-book model. Developing it right now and hope to roll it out in the next few months.

  • http://www.wilsonusman.com/ Wilson Usman

Good stuff…I am so glad for you. It's unbelievable isn't? I been blogging for a two months and I can't believe I've made the progress I have. I wish I would have started back in Jan 09 when I first learned about blogging, anyway thanks for the tips you keep doing what you are doing.

  • http://andbreak.com/ Julius Kuhn-Regnier

Congratulations on your 100th post. You have given some good tips here. I am actually writing an ebook at the moment. It takes a lot of work will see how long it takes me to finish it. I think I will also just give it away for free because I believe it's important to give people something in order for them to give you something back (and no I am not going to give it away only for people who subscribe to my email newsletter ;) )

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Yep, the next hundred should be a lot easier :)

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Really?? See that is interesting as I have never actually put an item on clickbank, so thanks for the info, i've just sold off of it on my other sites.

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

Thanks Paul, let me know how the eBook comes!~

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

It is the year to kill it with online business i feel :) Cheers Moon let me know how the eBook comes!

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

It is awesome to start with, the membership and other models take some serious time and thought but I got my first eBook done within 3 weeks.

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

That is what I always hear Wilson, it is funny, if you ask people “what do you regret most” and they are bloggers… it is always “That i didn't start sooner”!

  • http://www.Escapingthe9to5.com/ Maren Kate

See that is cool julius, I like that idea, it also will get a ton of link backs to your site. Let me know how that goes, I'd love to do a case study on that very different “Free gift” model.

  • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Great job on the 100th post! I think I'm at 116 ish. I remember when I noticed I was at 100 and thought I should do a 'The road to 100' type of post but didn't. I just kept it at amazing content (as usual).

I enjoy your post here. I don't agree with some of what you said but the direction of the post is worthy of a cheers. P.s. Thanks for dropping me a random line! I appreciate the time you took to do so :) laterz

  • http://creativecourage.org/ Ben Weston

congrats on making it to 100, Maren! Damn you're old. Sounds like you might need that adult stroller you mentioned =)

Thanks for the mini-course. I especially liked #1, something I'm currently working on. I'm hoping to have a more developed community when my product does come out.

  • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

    Thanx,

I'm already a self-employed designer, but there's a voice inside that wants more. And more. That's why I'm going to the next level with my blog :)

  • http://www.ouidavincent.com/ Ouida Vincent

Congratulations on reaching triple digits! Yes, this sure did get my creative juices flowing and I only started blogging in earnest last week! Right now I am using your post about 5 things that really work to build traffic! Thank you!

  • http://www.stevescottsite.com/ Steve Scott Site

Definitely recommend Clickbank. Case in point…Today I had an affiliate make 18 sales. I have no idea who he or she is, but they're selling the crap out of my stuff.

    Online Training Program

Whether you are thinking about getting your bachelor’s, masters or doctorate degree, online education can be a great option for anyone with a busy life. When you are a parent or a busy career person, it can be hard to go back to school. Maybe you feel that too much time has passed since you were last in college or high school, and you would feel uncomfortable in a formal education setting……………
