Maren, This is a good, succinct introduction to keyword research. And it's something everyone should be doing as the first step to driving traffic to their web sites.

Out of curiosity, have you tried any of the “premium” keyword tools out there like Market Samurai or Wordtracker?

i do these tests for some blog posts – but not all. The blog post to me should reinforce the rest of the site's structure and also rank for its only very long tail keyword. I will say – if you can do this for each blog post though – you can do very well getting long tail ranking for each post.

Do you run these same tests for individual blog posts? What type of goals do you have for a blog post versus your website in terms of keywords and SEO?
