Problogger wrote a pillar post on blog comments. One of his tips is to ask for comments - a little extra nudge will not hurt.

I totally agree with number 2, if you can comment on other blogs and be topical (i.e. add value to the bloggers post) then it can be suprising how many clicks you get from those comments. Well worth the time invested and it helps to build relationships.

Hmm... I may see your point Justin, I never thought of it that way but you are right... if you don't ask for comments the one you get will be A+ probably, but also if you ask for comments maybe it draws out the quieter readers and helps people that wouldn't normally interact start a conversation. I will tell you what though... I will try both angles and get back to you on which results in A. more comments and B. better quality comments.

Cheers!

Great Suggestions Maren! I have done a few of those with some good success, but it also reminded me of a few more items I'd like to try. Getting guest posters is on my To-Do List.

Hi Maren, Just letting you know I'm still out there and still reading. I've been writing consistently on my blog. I recently got contacted from a larger blog who wants to reprint or repost one of my blogs. With any luck I'll get a boost in traffic. I'd love for comments to start cropping up too. I've got lots of reading to do about how to make this blogging gig work for me. Your point about using freelance writing as a means to start a consultancy is something I'm trying to figure out. Thanks for the tips.
