If you are reading this blog, which obviously you are if you’ve gotten this far, then you must be interested in some degree with the idea of escaping the 9 to 5 and working for yourself. That or you love my wit 
which I’d like to think but probably isn’t the case!
Either way the good news is if you want to escape the 9 to 5 and truly begin to lead a life of freedom, a life that is on your own terms, there has never ever been a better time than the present! That is right, 2010 not only could but should be your best year ever! I want to challenge those reading and then hopefully some of you will respond in the comments below or hit me up on Twitter @marenkate or on Facebook.
The Escaping the 9 to 5 “Challenge for 2010″
1. Write down 3-5 of your true ‘passions’ this can be anything from reading romance novels, to bass fishing, to gold mining.
2. Take that list & do the classic “If I had a million dollars in the bank what would I do” and see which passion the answer aligns with the closest.
3. Take that passion & develop an online 6 degrees of connectivity chart. The six degrees are:
Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Foursquare, Your Blog and Linkedin
4. Start accounts at each of these social media sites & begin a blog, even if it is hosted on a free source like blogspot.com
5. Next determine how much you want and I mean want to escape the 9 to 5 and begin living life on your own terms. Rate it on a scale of 1-10. One being… my job is pretty rad, my boss loves me and I go to work happy. Ten being… I contemplate stapling my eyes out every day so I don’t have to look at another CPS report and I flirt with the idea of putting cyanide in my co-workers coffee.
6. Based on where you rank on the ‘I hate my job’ scale and how passionate you truly are about your passions start drawing out a general ‘game plan’ of what comes next. This should be a rough sketch of how 2010 can and will be your best year ever. In the coming days and weeks I will be putting out LOTS of free content explaining things like:
- How to build, host and generate content for your very own blog.
- How to brand yourself.
- How to harness social media and use it to its fullest purpose.
- How to monetize your passions.
And much, much more all focused on helping you escape the 9 to 5 and join me in my entrepreneurial pursuits! I need more like minded, entrepreneurial friends!
